Edward W. Skeins 1940-2026

CHAMPION -- Edward W. Skeins, 85, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Jan. 14, 2026, with Rosalee, his wife of 64 years, at his side.

Ed was born July 24, 1940, in New Springfield, Ohio, the son of Gilbert and Ethel Wyne Skeins. In 1958, he graduated from Webster Springs High School in West Virginia, and then joined the Navy. He felt privileged to serve on President Kennedy's "Good Will Cruise to Africa." He became a Golden Shellback when his ship crossed the equator at 0 degrees latitude and 0 degrees longitude.

He made his home in Warren, where he worked at Copperweld Steel. He was an avid fan of the Cleveland Indians, the Browns and the Cavaliers. He especially enjoyed traveling with his family and later, just his wife.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife, Rosalee Skeins, whom he married on May 28, 1963; three children, Shanna Schmitt of Cincinnati, John (Clare) Skeins of Elida and Michael (Linda) Skeins of Columbus. He had two granddaughters, Aluna and Hailey; and six grandsons, Vincent, Travis, Jeremy, Josh, Matthew and Nathan. He felt blessed with four great-grandchildren, Aria, Hunter, Violet and Noah.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Rick Schmitt.

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, with calling hours beginning at 10 a.m. until service time on Wednesday at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Meadow Brook Memorial Park, Champion.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
