WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. -- Robert Levon Adamson, 68, formerly of Warren, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2025.
Born Nov. 11, 1957, in Ravenna, to Hildred Levon and Dera Oliver Adamson, Robert attended Warren Western Reserve High School, then proudly served in the U.S. Army.
In 1985, he began working with Warren City Sanitation, then Packard Electric, from where he retired in 2007. After relocating to Winston-Salem, he continued working at Johnson Controls until his second retirement.
Ambition was at the core of who Rob was. He inspired everyone around him to believe in themselves and strive for greatness. In 1975, Robert joined the International Funk band, starting as the emcee announcer and hype man, and later became a singer alongside his lifelong friends, George Irvin and Fred Moore. With them, he went on tour with New Birth, Rufus Thomas and General Crook, and opened for legendary artists The O'Jays and Chaka Khan.
On Feb. 11, 1989, Rob married the love of his life, Jennifer Rucker Adamson.
He became a devoted husband, father and grandfather. "Big Rob" supported his family in every way he could, filling his home with songs, laughter, memories and a steady, unconditional love.
Rob leaves his devoted wife, Jennifer; son, Robert Levon (Kira Howell) Rucker; and daughters, Raven LaMae Mitchell and Rae 'Shell Lynette Adamson, all of Winston-Salem; brothers, Julius E. of Columbus and Bryan L. (Benjamin Page) of Cleveland; sisters, Gwendolyn (Joetta) Dugger of Austintown and Michelle Jones of Columbus; eight beloved grandchildren, Sonya and Sophie Mitchell, Aniyah, Aria and QuinDez Jr. Stubbs, Riyah Rucker, Daija Adamson and Kalil McCullough; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and a wide circle of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Learthon B. and Ronald L.; and sister, Gladys J. Adamson.
The family wishes to express deep appreciation for the love, concern and kindness shown to them at this time and during the time of services, which were held privately for the family to celebrate his life.
Arrangements were by Russell Funeral Home, Winston-Salem.
