NILES -- Richard T. Naples Sr., 85, passed away peacefully and naturally at 10:16 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 29, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born Sept. 7, 1940, in Warren, he was the son of the late Mike and Margaret Ragazzo Naples of Niles.
Richard was a 1958 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and spent his life rooted in the Niles community. After high school, he proudly served his country in the United States Army. He then established, owned and operated Richard's House of Gold on state Route 422 in Niles, and also dedicated 18 years to the Niles Fire Department, where he rose to the rank of lieutenant.
Following his retirement from the fire department, Richard founded Wholesale Fireworks in 1980, establishing locations in Hubbard, Niles and North Canton. In 1998, he expanded his commitment to local youth by creating the Richard T. Naples Sr. Education Foundation, supporting high school and college students from Trumbull, Mahoning and Stark counties in their educational pursuits. What began as 20 annual scholarships has grown to 35 awards each year, assisting students attending colleges, universities, trade schools and culinary programs.
Richard believed deeply in giving back to his community and, over many years, quietly donated to numerous food banks, churches, schools, sports programs, veterans' organizations, and children's and medical charities throughout the community and across the country. He also took great pride in the hundreds of high school and college students he employed over the years, many of whom stayed in touch long after their time with the company.
Richard formed meaningful and lasting relationships with members of his management staff, who became more like family to him. He built a legacy grounded in hard work, dedication and purpose -- a legacy his family and staff will continue to honor as they carry forward the work and values he established.
He is survived by his son, Richard T. "RT" (Lori) Naples Jr. of Howland; his daughter, Natalie (Jason) Simon of New Albany; and his cherished grandsons, Joel and Jude. He is also survived by his brother, Michael (Suzanne) Naples Sr.; and nephews, Michael (Rhonda) Naples Jr. and Anthony (Angie) Naples.
His family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to all who have offered love, kind words and prayers during this difficult time.
In accordance with his wishes, no formal service will be held.
A private service will be held for the family.
