Jeffrey P. Nelson 1964-2025
WARREN — It is with deep sadness that we announce the loss of Jeffrey Patrick Nelson, 61, who passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025. He was a dedicated husband and proud family man whose strength ran far deeper than the steel he worked with.
Jeff was, by all accounts, one of a kind. He could often be found with a cold Busch Light in hand and a colorful word on his tongue, but beneath the tough exterior was a man with a giant heart. He welcomed anyone into his home at any time. He was the first to offer help and the last to ask for it, always ready to go the extra mile for those in his circle. If you were loved by Jeff, you knew it — and he would do absolutely anything for you.
A skilled craftsman, Jeff spent his life working with his hands. He graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1982 and continued his education with an apprenticeship at WB Plotts, where he earned his credentials as a tool and die maker. He worked at WCI Steel Mill for 22 years before moving to Thomas Steel. He had 20 Mondays left until retirement.
He was born March 17, 1964, in Sharon, Pa. At the age of 10, he moved to Warren with his mother, Marilou, and the man who became his role model and father figure, Publio Zampedro. He always credited Publio’s influence for making him the man he was.
Jeffrey married Roselynn Leihgeber on April 30, 1988, at St. Pius Church. Over their 41 years together (37 married), they had two kids, Jacob Jeffrey Nelson and Samantha Mari Northup, whose husband, Jared, became another son to him. They also gained another son when Matthew Maher (Ashley) moved in. Jeffrey was absolutely crazy about his two grandkids, Jaxon Michael and Maximus Joseph Northup; they were his whole world.
Jeff was always a family man, starting with his brother, Richard Nelson; and stepsiblings, Leanne Zampedro and Ed Zampedro (Beth). After marrying Rose, he gained two more sisters, Danette Manusakis and Mary Louise Amorganos; and two more brothers, Daniel Leihgeber and Gregory Finney.
Family and friends are welcome to come pay their respects 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 14, 2025, at Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jeff’s memory may be directed to Trumbull Mobile Meals.
