CORTLAND -- David Montecalvo, 72, passed away peacefully, Sunday, Nov. 30, 2025, at his home.
He was born Dec. 3, 1952, in Santa Monica, California, to the late Ruth Costello Montecalvo and Nick Montecalvo.
David was a graduate of Howland High School. In his following years, he attended Kent State University, where he earned a bachelor's degree in telecommunications.
David served in the U.S. Army Reserve as a chaplain's assistant. He served in the U.S. Navy as a hospital corpsman at the Philadelphia Naval Hospital during the Vietnam War.
He loved to garden and enjoy the fruits of his labor as he made his own homemade wine. His favorite things to grow were blueberries, elderberries and blackberries. He liked working outside with his hands and had a collection of sandstone he gathered to build a large pavilion on his property. He also enjoyed buying, selling and trading tractors.
He was a very social person; he was a mail carrier in Niles, earning him the nickname "Mailman Dave." Most importantly, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his two grandsons, Bryce and Rowan.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Diane Montecalvo.
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, David and Krista Montecalvo; grandsons, Bryce and Rowan Montecalvo; siblings, Joe Montecalvo, Nick (Denise) Montecalvo, John Montecalvo, Denese (Tom) Pappas and Renee (Joe) Powell.
Calling hours will be 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 13, 2025, at Lane Funeral Home, Shafer-Winans Chapel, 164 N. High St., Cortland, OH 44410, with a funeral service at noon. Interment will be in All Souls Cemetery.
