JOHNSTON -- Betty L. Denman passed away peacefully at home Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2025. She was born Sept. 1, 1930, a daughter of Charles and Anna Pahon.
Betty and her husband, James Denman, owned and operated Denman Inc. General Contracting from 1952 through November 1995. Betty and James were married May 19, 1951; James passed away July 8, 2014.
Her favorite pastimes included sewing, yard work and gardening, all of which she enjoyed.
Betty leaves behind four children, Larry (Denise) Denman of Warren, William (Maryanne) Denman of Howland, Diane (Tom) Horner of Cortland and Denise (James) Davis of Johnston, with whom she lived and who cared for her during the final stages of dementia. She is also survived by her three sisters, Florence Hutton of Cortland, Mildred Brainard of Howland and Nancy Downing of Ashtabula.
Betty had seven grandchildren, Julie (Jeremy) Welker, Jennifer (Walt) Henderson, Matt Denman, Mary Catherine (Phil) Mazi, Zach (Liz) Horner, Michael Denman and Nathan Montgomery, who passed away Jan. 12, 2018. She also leaves behind 15 great-grandchildren.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Anna Pahon.
Special thanks to the caregivers who helped the family keep their promise that she would never go to a nursing home; her granddaughter, Jenn Henderson; family friend, Carol Anderson; her daughter, Diane Horner; Ashley Piontkowski, who was like a granddaughter; and Southern Care Hospice.
There will be a small private service for immediate family and close friends.
Betty will be laid to rest, next to her husband and grandson, in Johnston Cemetery.
