CORTLAND -- Arthur "Art" George Bangert, 95, of Cortland, passed away peacefully Thursday, Dec. 25, 2025.
Art was born on Aug. 11, 1930, in Warren, the only son of the late George F. Bangert and Laura Beach Bangert.
Art graduated from Cortland High School in 1949. After graduation, Art served in the Naval Reserve. After he served in the Naval Reserve, Art began working for the Sanitary Dairy Milk Company, delivering milk. He then later began working at Packard Electric. He later retired from Packard.
Art was dedicated to his work and his family. Art enjoyed woodworking. He would go into the woods to cut down trees to use in his workshop. He made desks, swings, tables and numerous other pieces for family and friends. He especially liked using wood from his father's workshop and the farm where he grew up in Cortland to make furniture for his children and grandchildren. He always put a message on each piece that he made.
Surviving are his two sons, Art (Kareen) Bangert of Helena, Montana, and Ted (Marlene) Bangert of Cortland; and his daughter, Cindy (Rob) Brattain of Great Falls, Montana. In addition, he has three stepchildren, nine grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and his special niece, Sandy Tomasiak.
He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Carrol Jean Bangert.
Art never met a stranger. He loved people and especially loved kids. He will sorely be missed. We find comfort in knowing his legacy lives on through the lessons he taught us, the love he shared and the memories we will cherish forever. His love was miles long and wide.
A graveside celebration of Art's life will take place at 9 a.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 30, in the Chapel at Pine Knoll Cemetery, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Carl W Hall Funeral Home.
