HOWLAND -- Arlene M. Schick Rodgers, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and lifelong servant of her community, passed away peacefully Monday, Dec. 1, 2025.
Born Jan. 19, 1930, in Warren, to Otto Schick and Vernie Cheney, Arlene lived a long, purpose-filled life -- rooted in faith, family and service to others. A proud 1948 graduate of Howland High School, Arlene later married the love of her life, Harry E. Rodgers, on Aug. 8, 1951. They built their life together in Howland Township, where they raised their family and helped shape the community they deeply loved. Harry preceded her in death in 1992.
Arlene was a dedicated member of the First Baptist Church of Warren, where she served as a deaconess and devoted herself to the church's missions, including the Winifred Daugherty Circle. Her faith guided every aspect of her life and was evident in the way she cared for her family, neighbors and anyone who needed a helping hand. Known for her strong work ethic and warm heart, Arlene was employed as a baker in the Howland Schools cafeteria, retiring in 1982. She also spent many years working as a dispatcher for her son Bud's business, Bud's Towing & Recovery, where she became a familiar and trusted voice for the company. Service was at the core of who Arlene was. She volunteered for decades as a park manager with Bolindale Parks and she was an active member of the Howland Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary, to be closer to her son, David, who served with Howland Fire Department, the Bolindale and DeForest Boosters Club and her church community. Her dedication made a lasting impact on countless families, children and organizations throughout the area.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harry; her three brothers, Charles, Kenneth and Lloyd; and her sons, Harry "Bud" Rodgers Jr. and David Rodgers.
She is survived by her five grandchildren, Jeremy Rodgers (Cinnamon), Harry Rodgers III (Shane), Catherine Coleman (Dennis), Josh Rodgers and Michaela Cruse (Keith); as well as many great-grandchildren and a large extended Schick family, who will forever cherish her memory.
Arlene leaves behind a legacy of compassion, faith and unwavering devotion to her family and community. Her gentle strength and loving presence will be deeply missed, but her impact will live on in every life she touched.
Calling hours will be held 5 to 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 8, 2025, at Lane Funeral Home, Roberts-Clark Chapel, with a funeral service to follow at 7 pm. Interment will be held in Howland Township.
