Michael D. Johnston 1954-2025

WARREN -- It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Michael David Johnston, 71, a loving husband, devoted father of three, proud grandfather and loyal brother, on Saturday, Nov. 8, 2025.

Mike built his life around family, learning and hard work. He was a doting grandfather to four, finding endless joy in their laughter and curiosity. His eyes would light up at their stories and he never missed an opportunity to share one of his own.

Known by many as "Coach J," Mike had a gift for bringing out the best in others -- on and off the field. He led by example, teaching not only the fundamentals of the game but also the importance of teamwork, perseverance and respect.

A blue-collar worker through and through, Mike took great pride in an honest day's work. His body told the story of a lifetime of dedication and integrity.

Above all, he was a curious mind with a lifelong passion for learning. Whether tinkering in the workshop, reading late into the night or striking up thoughtful conversations, Mike never stopped seeking to understand the world around him.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Debi; his children, Jason (Reena), Aaron (Arlette) and Brian (Samantha); his grandchildren, Olivia, Molly, Emersyn and Llewella; and all who were fortunate to know him.

Mike's legacy of love, hard work and curiosity will continue to inspire those he leaves behind.

Per his wishes, a small private celebration of his life will be held at a future date.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Jefferson Area Little League.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
