WARREN -- Roy E. "Gumpy" Plant, 86, passed away Wednesday, Oct. 22, 2025, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.
He was born March 10, 1939, in Niles, the son of the late Oscar Plant and the late Theora Monroe Plant.
Roy retired from Copperweld Steel after 43 years. He was a member of Knights of Columbus and Sisters of Notre Dame. Roy was a 4-H and Boy Scout leader. He loved classic and antique cars. Gumpy enjoyed woodworking and making toy cars, trains, dollhouses and kids' toys. In his spare time, he enjoyed making pies, with cherry being his most well-known.
He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Ann N. Plant of Warren; children, Roy (Nedra) Plant Jr. of Nelsonville, Kathryn (Michael) Callahan of Warren, Denise (James) McNeill of Rock Hill, South Carolina, Daniel Plant of Warren and William (Shirley) Plant of Rock Hill; sister, Lois (Edward) Russell of Howland; grandchildren, Katie, Ryan, Eric, Patrick, Alexandria, Roy, Courtney and Matthew; 13 great-grandchildren and one on-the-way.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Eilleen Thompson and Marie Sutton.
Services will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2025, at St. William Catholic Church.
Friends may call 9 to 11 a.m. Tuesday at the church.
Interment will be in All Souls Cemetery, Bazetta Township.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any material contributions be made to Sisters of Notre Dame, 13000 Auburn Road, Chardon, OH 44024; or Knights of Columbus at St. William Catholic Church, 5411 Mahoning Ave., NW, Warren, OH 44483, in his memory.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
