WARREN -- Diana Grace Smith Summerill passed on to be with our Lord at the age of 80 on Wednesday, Oct. 15, 2025.
She was born in Temple, Texas, to Robert E. Smith and Louise K. Schiel Smith on Jan. 9, 1945.
Her parents, husband, Tharon L. Summerill, sister, Linda Hurst and son-in-law, Michael Stefanik, went before her and were there to meet her at the foot of the throne.
Left behind are brother, Robert Smith of Lancaster, Pa.; daughters, Deborah (Michael) Stefanik of Fort Walton Beach, Florida, and Rebecca (Mark) Kaiser of Bloomfield; stepchildren, Tharon (Donna) Summerill of Coventry, New York, Shannon (Sean) Daley of Warren, Eve (Harry) Summerill-Neel of Avinger, Texas, and Yvonne Summerill and Harry Reichbaum of Union City, Pa.; grandchildren, Amanda, Michael Jr., Kirklind, Jaramieh, Anya, Ruthie and Ricki; stepgrandchildren, Valkyrie, HJ and Amelia; great-grandchildren, Mason, Landen, Ezra, Reece, Luca, Lucas and Octavius; and friends innumerable.
Diana graduated from high school at 16 years old, was a member of the National Honor Society, married a military man and traveled the world. She would move back to the United States, and with her two young daughters, she began to reestablish her life. In the early / mid-1980s, she met Tharon. During this era of her life she was employed at Hot Sam's in the Eastwood Mall, and she and Tharon began a love affair which lasted nearly 40 years. They eventually married on Oct. 13, 2002.
Early in their relationship, Diana obtained the knowledge and training to become an LPN. In that capacity, she worked with Community Skilled Healthcare Center, Trumbull Memorial Hospital and later at the American Red Cross as a "Health Historian."
Diana enjoyed thrifting, selling children's collectible toys on eBay and just driving around taking mini road trips. She loved Hershey chocolate bars, the color orange, cheeseburgers plain, add tomato, conversation while enjoying salty snacks and her three miniature dachshunds. Above all, she loved her family. She had a wicked sense of humor, was extremely intelligent, had a kind heart and she never truly lost her naivete. Diana was a loyal friend and she was a perfect road trip companion.
At the end of her journey, her one wish was to be in sunny Florida close to many of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but instead, she spent her final years in a nursing home in Ohio.
May Diana rest in peace.
Should I live another life, I would want Diana there every day. So says Yvonne.
