Theodore R. Ray 1933-2025

SOUTHERN PINES, N.C. -- Theodore R. "Ted" Ray, 91, passed away Tuesday, July 29, 2025, at Hospice House of Pinehurst, North Carolina, with his loving wife, Susan, by his side.

Ted was born Oct. 4, 1933, in Warren, a son of the late Raymond and Edith Ray.

Ted graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1951. He started a TV antenna business, which was carried on by his sons for a total of 71 years. He also was a firefighter for the city of Warren for 21 years. In 1984, he retired and relocated to Southern Pines.

Ted was an avid golfer, which made Pinehurst the perfect place for him to live. He worked at Pinehurst golf courses for over 30 years, where he enjoyed meeting people. He had a loving heart and made many lifelong friends, and he cherished his time with family and friends at Myrtle Beach.

Ted is survived by the love of his life, Susan, formerly Susan Colson, whom he married in 1954; six children, Wendy (Tim) Downs, Theodore (Amy) Ray, Sherry (Lanny) Leonard, Vicki (Nick), Butorac, Raymond (Kim) Ray and April Thomas; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and a brother, Robert Ray.

Besides his parents, Ted was preceded in death by a brother, Willard Ray.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Ted's name to the Akron Children's Burn Institute at akronchildrens.org.

A celebration of life will be held Saturday, Aug. 23, 2025, in his hometown of Southern Pines.
