Jaxon Cyphert 1937-2025

CORTLAND — Jaxon “Jack” Cyphert, 88, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2025, at his home.

He was born Jan. 3, 1937, in Cleveland, the son of the late Alan Stewart and Ruth Hammler Cyphert.

He married Bertha R. Fink on April 7, 1956.

Jack was a graduate of the National Hardwood Lumber Association in Memphis, Tennessee, where he worked as a lumber grader. He then went on to earn an associate degree at Warren Business College. He was the owner of Cyphert’s Income Tax and Bookkeeping and then Taxes by Jack, which combined made over 50 years of experience.

Jack was a member of the National Association of Tax Practitioners and the National Federation of Independent Business. He was active at Cortland United Methodist Church, serving on the administrative council, as Sunday school superintendent and United Methodist men’s treasurer, on the finance committee, and as the financial secretary. He sang in the choir and bowled in the church league.

Jack is survived by his loving wife of 69 years, Bertha R. Cyphert of Cortland; children, Patricia (Don) Zimmerman of Columbiana, Paula Cyphert of Garrettsville, Pearl Cyphert of Cortland and Jaxon R. (Kathleen) Cyphert of Tallmadge; granddaughters, Lauren (Chris) Roy and Madison Cyphert; grandson, Keith (Lisa) Zimmerman; great-grandchildren, Tori, Justin and Alex (Karly); and great-great-grandchildren, Kenzee and Mason.

In addition to his parents, Jack was preceded in death by his five brothers, Wilmer, David, Donald, Thomas and Allen Cyphert; and grandson, Kevin Zimmerman.

Services will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday, July 22, 2025, at Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, where the Rev. David Vensel will officiate. Friends may call 4 to 6 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Private interment will take place in Twin Valley Memorial Park, Delmont, Pa.
