Estella M. Nickells 1938-2025
CORTLAND — Estella Mae Nickells, 86, passed away peacefully, Sunday, July 27, 2025.
She was born Nov. 18, 1938, in Niles, to the late Emory Patterson and Helen Violet Pierce Patterson.
Estella was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.
She married the love of her life, Lee Nickells Sr., on Sept. 29, 1956, and they spent many wonderful years together.
She retired from Packard Electric after 30 years of service.
In her spare time, she enjoyed playing bingo. She was an avid sports fan — one could almost say fanatical — following any Cleveland sports. The Guardians and the Browns were at the top of her list, and she was a diehard Ohio State fan.
She was a phenomenal cook; her specialties were stuffed cabbage, homemade egg noodles, chicken and dumplings, and her famous chocolate fudge.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Nickells Sr.; infant son, Michael; her parents; stepfather, Derso Baker; sister, Dorie Patterson; and brother, Sonny Patterson.
She is survived by her children, Lee “Jr” Nickells, David Nickells, Richard (Anita) Nickells, Tammy (Kevin) Gozur, Mitchell (Debbie) Nickells and Timothy Joe (Lisa Overly) Nickells; 13 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren one great-great-grandchild; and siblings, Peggy (Bill) Joyner and Barbara Cartwright; along with many nieces and nephews.
