HOWLAND — Michael P. “Mike” Sanders, 94, passed away Friday morning, June 20, 2025, at his home, and was finally reunited with his loving wife and his Savior Jesus Christ.
Mike was born Dec. 3, 1930, in Warren, a son of Michael and Mary Lincheshien Sandor.
Mike was a 1950 graduate of Howland High School and was drafted into the United States Army during the Korean War. He was proud of his military service and was awarded an honorable discharge for his service.
Upon returning home, Mike married the love of his life, Erminia A. “Erma” Lazzari; the two shared 66 years of marriage until Erma’s passing in 2020.
As a lifelong area resident, Mike was the owner and operator of Mike’s Barber Shop in Howland for 66 years. He loved his clientele and wanted to make them aware of how much they meant to him, and to thank them for their business and friendship. Mike was also a Howland school bus driver for 25 years. He loved his community and was proud to serve the people of Howland for so long.
Mike’s hard work and dedication mirrored his devotion to his family. He cherished the moments spent with those he loved and he will be deeply missed.
Mike will always be remembered by his children, Timothy (Karen) Sanders of Champion and Karen (Jerry) Sandford of Cortland; 11 grandchildren, Erin, Chistopher (Jessica), Lauren (Nick), Michael (Stevie), Jason (Beth), Nicholas (Alexis), Mikala, Marauka (Mark), Anna, Jere and Montana (Travis); 14 beloved great-grandchildren; daughter-in-law, Bobbi Sanders; and son-in-law, Scott Santucci.
Besides his parents and his beloved wife, Mike was preceded in death by his son, Jeffery Sanders; daughter, Debra Santucci; grandson, Shaun Palette; sisters, Mary Kish, Ann Kubinski and Margaret Poulos; and a brother, John Hulan.
Mike’s family honored him with private services Thursday, June 26, 2025, at the Peter Rossi and Son Memorial Chapel, Warren, with burial in All Souls Cemetery.
