M. Jeffrey Barney 1981-2025

Born Nov. 15, 1981, Jeff was the beloved son of Michael and Patricia Barney of Bazetta Township.

He graduated from Lakeview High School in Cortland in 2000 and went on to earn a degree in electrical engineering from The Pennsylvania State University. He later pursued his Master of Business Administration degree at Carnegie Mellon University in Pittsburgh.

Jeff held a senior management position at Remcom Inc. in State College, Pa. He was also a dedicated volunteer with the Alpha Fire Department in State College, where he served for 14 years and rose to the rank of rescue lieutenant.

As a teenager, Jeff earned the rank of Eagle Scout, became a licensed amateur radio operator and worked summers as a certified lifeguard.

Jeff was deeply respected and admired by all who knew him. As a kayak enthusiast who paddled rivers all across the country and in Portugal, he found joy in every outdoor adventure. Passionate and accomplished in many other areas, Jeff also loved fly fishing, rock climbing, hiking, cooking, photography and renovating his home in State College.

Traveling the world for both work and leisure, Jeff embraced each journey with friends, enthusiasm and happiness. At the heart of it all was his profound love for his family.

He is survived by his parents; his sister, Allison (Wesley) Sellers of Norwalk; his niece, Brynneth, and nephew, Benjamin; extended family; and a wide circle of friends, especially within his kayaking community. Jeff also leaves behind his loyal dog and best companion, Freya.

Please join his family for a celebration of Jeff’s life 1 to 5 p.m. Sunday, July 13, 2025, at Squaw Creek Country Club, 761 Youngstown Kingsville Road, Vienna, OH 44473, with a special moment of reflection honoring Jeff at 3 p.m. All are invited.

Jeff’s presence, laughter and spirit will be deeply missed by all whose lives he touched.
