Charles W. Luna 1938-2025
HOHENWALD, Tenn. — Charles William “Bill” Luna, 87, departed this world on Sunday, June 8, 2025, at the Lewis Park Post Acute Nursing Home in Hohenwald, Tennessee, surrounded by the love and memories of a life well-lived.
Bill was born on April 21, 1938, in the heart of Wayne County, Tennessee, where he was raised on a farm in the small southern community of Topsy. He was the cherished son of the late Hubert “Rod” and Odell Higgins Luna and the only brother to five sisters, four of whom, Margaret Luna McGee, Jean Luna Henson, Lanell Luna and Wanda Luna Lomax, predeceased him.
Bill is fondly remembered and survived by his three adoring children: Bill (Holly) Luna of Kinsman, Brody (Ashley) Luna of White House, Tennessee, and Celia Luna (Joseph) Jenkins of Nashville, Tennessee. His memory will continue to carry on in his daughters of the heart Candy, Karen, Vickie and Toni. His legacy also lives on through his beloved grandchildren, Preston Luna of Kinsman, Madison Gunter of Kinsman and Lexi Luna of White House, Tennessee. His sister, Jerrie Lou Kelly of Hohenwald, along with numerous nieces and nephews, also cherish the memory of Bill.
After honorably serving three years in the Army, Bill embarked on a new chapter in Warren, where he spent many years dedicated to his work at ITT Grinnell. However, it was music that truly captured his heart. With a guitar in hand, Bill’s passion for melody led him to form and play lead guitar in several country bands, including Bill Luna and the Country Squires and with Bill Baker and the Detours. His Gretsch White Falcon guitar, prized for its distinctive sound and rare design, was a symbol of his musical talent and a source of great pride.
The early 1980s saw Bill returning to his Tennessee roots, where he applied his hardworking nature to various roles in the construction industry around Nashville. Upon retirement, he settled back into the quiet life of Hohenwald, where he could often be found fishing or sharing his philosophy of “Pickin and Grinning” with friends and family.
