Shawn M. Salapata 1982-2025
McDONALD — Shawn M. Salapata, 42, passed away unexpectedly, Saturday, May 17, 2025, in an ATV accident during The Tour de Forest Spring ATV Ride in Forest County, Pa.
Shawn, also known as “Garbs,” was born Aug. 30, 1982, in Youngstown, the son of Harry and Kathy Stabile Salapata.
He was a 2001 graduate of Niles McKinley High School, where he played on the soccer team. At the time of his death, Shawn was employed by the United States Post Office. Prior to that, he worked at Taylor Steel for 18 years.
Shawn was a man with strong convictions and beliefs. He had a wealth of knowledge which he often shared. Shawn loved gardening and sharing the fruits of his labor with family and friends. He also enjoyed playing bocce, but most of all, Shawn enjoyed sports. He was an avid and proud Penn State fan. He also enjoyed watching and rooting for the Manchester United Soccer Team. Although these were Shawn’s favorite teams, he followed the Phillies, 49ers, and Celtics.
Shawn is survived and will be sadly missed by his loving wife, Audria Ramsey Salapata; his parents, Harry and Kathy Salapata of Niles; siblings, Michael (Christina) Salapata of Maryland, David (Diana) Salapata of Texas, Lisa (George) Nicklow of Indiana and Heidi Salapata of Vienna; his grandmother, Mary Stabile; his many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins; and his close friend, Paco.
He was preceded in death by his grandparents, John and Mary Salapata, and John Stabile; his uncle, Nick Salapata; and his aunt, Rosemary Neal.
Cremation has taken place.
A memorial Mass in Shawn’s honor will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, May 24, 2025, at St. Pope John XXIII Parish-Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Niles.
Shawn’s family would like to send their sincere appreciation for the overwhelming support, kindness and love that has been shown to them.
