Richard Heitzwebel 1937-2025

MECCA — Richard Heitzwebel passed away peacefully, Tuesday morning, April 22, 2025, at Hospice House in Poland, surrounded by love.

Born May 8, 1937, in Westerville, Richard was the son of the late Wyant and Mary Heitzwebel. He graduated from Olentangy High School and went on to attend Youngstown College.

Richard spent much of his professional life in the transportation industry, where he was admired for his dedication, reliability and leadership. Later in his career, he proudly served as a deputy in the sheriff’s department.

In his younger days, Richard was a talented multi-sport athlete and played the trumpet in the high school band. He had a passion for coaching baseball and a love for the outdoors. Tending to his tomato garden brought him great joy. But above all, Richard was a devoted family man who offered unwavering support and love whenever it was needed.

He is survived by his beloved wife, Edith Yanoski; his children, Jody (Ed) Odom, Tim (Tami) Heitzwebel and Rick Heitzwebel; and grandchildren, Edward III, Kevin, Amber, Brandon, Lindsay, Emily and Eva. He was a proud great-grandfather to 13 and great-great-grandfather to two. He also leaves behind his dear sister, Sandy (Howard) Dorsey.

Richard was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Brenda Stover; grandsons, Mark, Dustin and Kyle; and his brother, Mike Fenneken.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visitation 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Lane Funeral Homes, Shafer-Winans Chapel, 164 North High St., Cortland.

A memorial service will follow at 4 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home.
