Mary L. Witchey 1941-2025

Mary was born Dec. 14, 1941, in Sharon, Pa., the daughter of Arthur Howard Pettitt and Alma Hudspeth Pettitt. She was a graduate of Hartford High School and attended two years of school for accounting.

She then worked for Parco Scientific in Vienna, where she was the bookkeeper and accountant. She married James T. Witchey on Oct. 14, 1961. He preceded her in death on Nov. 12, 1995.

Mary was a member of the Hartford Community Church, Eastern Star # 518, the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation and the Moose. She loved to be active. She enjoyed bowling, NASCAR, camping, fishing, dancing and cruises.

She is survived by a daughter, Susan (Reece Hensley) Clem of Stephens City, Virginia; a son, Douglas (Lynda Ann) Witchey of Burghill; Brian Sump of Greenville, whom she regarded as a son; three grandchildren, Kristen Fritch, Melinda Marks and Brittany (Anthony) Mancini; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Julianna, Cecilia and Dominic.

She was also preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Ronald Pettitt; and her longtime companion, Ken Sump.

Friends and relatives may call from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 30, 2025, and 11 a.m. to noon Thursday, May 1, 2025, at the Galloway-Onstott Funeral Home, 3451 state Route 7, Hartford, OH 44424. At noon, the funeral service will be held with Pastor Gary Meikle officiating.

Burial will be in Hartford Township Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Mary’s name to the Hartford Community Church, P.O. Box 38, Hartford, OH 44424 or to Winchester Bible Church, 1481 Senseny Road, Winchester, VA 22602.
