Victoria E. Hopes 1934-2025

ORWELL — Victoria E. “Vicki” Hopes,90, passed away peacefully, Saturday, March 8, 2025, with her family by her side, at Windsor House at Champion.

She was born Sept. 23, 1934, in Cleveland, the daughter of Almerin and Eva Funk Turner.

Vicki graduated from Chardon High School in 1952 and married Wilfred “Bill” Hopes on Feb. 14, 1959. She was Grand Valley school secretary for 36 years.

Vicki was a member of Orwell United Methodist Church, Pearl Lehn Circle, Vintage Chevrolet Club of America and Monday Nite Merrimakers Bowling League.

She was a majorette for the Geauga County Fair Band for eight years, a Cleveland Guardians and Cavaliers fan and also enjoyed reading, jigsaw puzzles and bowling. Vicki and Bill traveled to 47 states and loved attending events their grandsons and great-grandchildren were involved in.

She is survived by her daughter, Vicki Lynn (David) Gargas of Champion; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Paul Gargas and Chad Dowell of Atlanta, Georgia, Mark and Christinia (children, Frank and Vincent) Gargas of Howland, Jeffrey and Amy (children, Jonathan and Jacquelyn) Gargas of Stow; and sisters-in-law, Dorothy Hare and Virginia Simonson.

Victoria was preceded in death by her husband, Bill Hopes; parents, Almerin and Eva Turner; brothers, Edward, Raymond and Robert Turner; sister, Lena McGeary; and uncle, Raymond C. “Unc” Turner.

A funeral service officiated by Pastor Jack Childers will take place at noon Monday, March 17, 2025, at Orwell United Methodist Church, with visitation 10 to 11:45 a.m.

Burial will follow in Orwell North Cemetery.
