Gary L. Cunningham 1960-2025

YOUNGSTOWN — Gary Lee Cunningham, 64, of Youngstown, passed away Tuesday, March 11, 2025, at Heritage Manor.

He was born Oct. 30, 1960, in Warren, the son of the late Darwin F. Cunningham and the late Nancy Nicholas.

Gary was a graduate of Howland High School, Class of 1978, where he played the trumpet in the marching band. He was a veteran of the United States Navy, having served from Aug. 28, 1978, through Aug. 27, 1982. After his honorable discharge from the Navy, he attended the New Castle School of Trades, where he received an associate’s degree in electrical technology.

Gary retired as a lieutenant from Trumbull Correctional Institution after 20-plus years of service.

Funland, an arcade in the Eastwood Mall, started his love of video games and foosball. He loved horse playing. Gary loved sports and especially enjoyed watching the Kansas City Chiefs and The Ohio State Buckeyes while eating wings. He was an online classic rock DJ known as “Brute Force.” He cherished the time he spent hanging out with his family.

He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie (Christian) Kittle; son, Steven Cunningham; sisters, Sandra (Charles Tony) Wagner, Linda (James) Lombardo and Wendy (Todd) Suckow; granddaughter, Sheridan Kittle; and many nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his best friend, Matt Curto.

Visitation will be held from 4 to 6 p.m. on Saturday, March 22, 2025, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
