Alfred S. Magargle 1928-2025

He was born Dec. 14, 1928, in Whitehall, Pa., the son of Albert Lester Magargle and Dolly Phoebe Weeks Magargle.

Alfred married the love of his life, Marian Louise Sibbrell, on Dec. 31, 1954; they enjoyed 60 years of marriage until she passed away Jan. 22, 2015.

Alfred was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the European Command.

After the service, Alfred was employed as a truck driver for Jones Motor Company for 30 years. He also drove a school bus and was a custodian for Newton Falls Schools for 11 years, retiring in 1991.

Alfred was a life member of VFW Post #3332. Alfred helped to start the girls’ Tomboys Baseball League. He also coached the Little League boys’ team and enjoyed woodworking.

He is survived by his daughters, Barbara (Thomas Glenn) Brown of Newton Falls, Amy (Ron) Hartman of Garrettsville, Judy Magargle of Austintown and Sara (Theodore) Tomko of New Boston; sons, Gary (Thelma) Humberger of Newton Falls, Jeffrey (Julia) Magargle of McKinney, Texas, and Dennis (Susan) Magargle of Maryville, Tennessee; sister-in-law, Betty Magargle of Muncy, Pa., brother, Larry Magargle, also of Muncy, Pa.; sister-in-law, Lois Magargle of Fremont; 30 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marian; one son, Tim Magargle; two sisters, Mary Mahaffey and Violet Wright; three brothers, Howard, Clarence and Wayne Magargle; and one granddaughter, Rebecca Humberger.

Cremation has taken place and there will be no services.

Alfred will be laid to rest next to Marian in Hawley Cemetery in Paris Township.
