Mavis Yuen-Ha Leung 1939-2024

LIBERTY -- Mavis Yuen-Ha Leung passed away peacefully at her daughter's home Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, at the age of 84.

She was born Dec. 29, 1939, in Hong Kong.

She received her bachelor's degree in social work from Hong Kong Baptist College. Upon completing her education, Mavis embarked on a meaningful career as a medical social worker for Lutheran World Services. She worked there for five years before coming to the United States to join her sisters.

She married her college classmate, Kai Chung Leung, on March 23, 1969, in Oakland, California. They moved to Youngstown shortly thereafter.

Mavis' role as a mother was one she cherished deeply. She was a stay-at-home mom until her daughter started high school. She then worked as a lunchroom aide at E.J. Blott School in Liberty for 15 years.

Mavis' joy was multiplied with the arrival of her grandchildren, Lauren and Ian. She devoted herself to their upbringing with the same love and attention she had given to her own daughter.

Mavis will be deeply missed by her husband, Kai Chung Leung; her daughter and son-in-law, Drs. Angela and Michael Roberts; and her grandchildren, Lauren and Ian Roberts. She also leaves behind her sisters, Gloria and Theresa; and many nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to thank Hospice of the Valley (especially Shelly and Rebecca) for their compassion and kindness. A special thank you to Twila for her loving care.

Per her wishes, there will be no services or calling hours.
