MECCA -- Joan L. Peterson, 87, passed away peacefully at her home Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2024, with family by her side.
She was born May 18, 1937, in Kinsman, a daughter of Kenneth and Effa Koonce Ogilbee.
On Nov. 15, 1953, she married Edward Peterson and together they built a life and family in Mecca. She enjoyed traveling to see relatives, cooking for others, sewing and quilting. She made countless handcrafted keepsakes that her family will cherish for generations.
Joan enjoyed her community and loved volunteering as a poll worker during elections, playing Mrs. Claus for the local kids at "Sit with Santa" during the Christmas season and participating in other Mecca Community events like parades, the Haunted Walk and Mecca Corn Roast with family and friends. She leaves behind a legacy of devotion and service that will continue to inspire those who knew her.
She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Edward Peterson; her children, Blake and Peg Prucey Peterson, Debra and Fred Wild, Donna and Dan Walsh, and Diane and Joe Puskar; a daughter-in-law, Nancy Doyle Peterson; and her brother, Leroy Ogilbee. She was "Nana" to nine grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild on the way.
Joan was preceded in death by her parents, four sisters, four brothers and her son, Brian Peterson.
A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
