Vernon A. Yoder 1926-2024
WARREN — Vernon A. Yoder, 98, passed away peacefully Tuesday morning, Aug. 27, 2024, at Gillette Nursing Home in Warren.
He was born May 22, 1926, to Allen and Lizzie Tice Yoder in Springs, Pa.
He married his late wife, Gertie Yoder in 1950, and they had five sons. He was a painter and a minister, serving the Lord in various churches and ministries. In the 1950s he helped start and served as pastor at several churches in Maryland and Pennsylvania, Missouri and Kansas. He retired from the ministry in 1991 and continued as a painter for a number of years until he was 80 years old. Besides working, his passion was fishing on Lake Erie.
Vernon will be missed greatly by his family, sons, Vernon (Debbie) of Warren, Phillip (Shena Mae) of Elkhart, Indiana, James (Jean) of Waynesboro, Pa., Maynard (Lisa) of Plain City, Ohio, and Edward of Independence, Missouri; along with nine grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, as well as his siblings, Lloyd (Hazel) Yoder, Paul (Wanda) Yoder and Mark (Ruth) Yoder.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Gertie, and siblings, Edwin Yoder, Elvin Yoder, Owen Yoder, Alta Killius, Evelyn Yoder, Ada Beachy, Anna Katherine Yoder and Eli Yoder.
A celebration of his life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, at Champion Presbyterian Church, 4997 Mahoning Ave. NW, Warren, OH 44483.
A private family graveside service will be held prior to his service in Mapleview Cemetery in Burton.
Memorial donations can be made in Vernon’s name to the Warren Family Mission, 155 Tod Ave. NW, Warren, OH 44485.
