Sharron W. Gedeon 1949-2024

SOUTHINGTON -- Sharron Waldeck Gedeon, 74, passed away peacefully Saturday, July 27, 2024, while being comforted by the presence of her children at St. Joseph Warren Hospital. As her family and friends continue to deeply mourn her loss and navigate the complicated grief process, let us all find solace that her transition was painless and dignified.

Sharron was born Oct. 13, 1949, in Weston, W. Va. After relocating to Southington at an early age, she began working at the Halfway Restaurant. She graduated from Chalker High School in 1967, where many of her classmates viewed her as the class clown. She held the ultimate bragging right, however, of being crowned as the very first homecoming queen in Chalker's history. Shortly after graduating high school, she was employed by Packard Electric for 31.5 years, before retiring in 1999.

Sharron married Dan Gedeon on March 12, 1971. Despite an eventual separation, she remained a loved and cherished member of the entire Gedeon family -- and rarely missed a holiday family gathering. Her laughter was not only the loudest, but also the most contagious. Oftentimes joined by family and friends, she absolutely loved to watch her daughter, Angie, compete in high school basketball games and her son, Dan, race motorcycles. Both were successful champions in her eyes, for many reasons.

After her retirement, she devoted her time, energy and passion toward caring for both of her late parents. She remained forever grateful for the unconditional love and support she received from her family and friends that selflessly assisted with this undertaking.

Sharron possessed the unique ability of living her life as both a lover and a fighter. In 2005, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Even while receiving treatments, she remained determined to bake and share the world's best cheesecakes. Yes, she accomplished many other things, but the quality of her cheesecakes -- and her willingness to top them with cherries or strawberries -- cannot be overstated. She always greatly appreciated receiving inspirational letters, cards filled with words of encouragement and reassuring phone calls from those that gave her the strength that at times she so desperately needed. Her cousins, Frances, Carolyn, Ralph, Barbara, Jimmy and LeeAnn of West Virginia always communicated a profound love that served for Sharron as a beacon of hope.

Thanks to Sharron's green thumb, her beautiful flower gardens were admired by many. She also enjoyed motorcycle rides and collecting blue glass; and was quite crafty. Above all else, she adored spending time with her children and her grandson, as well as other family and friends that she affectionately referred to as "her people."

Sharron was predeceased by her parents, Parke and Lorene Waldeck.

She is survived by her brother, Darrell "Wally" (Gloria) Waldeck; daughter and compassionate caretaker, Angela "Angie" (Monty) Josett; son, Dan (Grace) Gedeon; grandson, Jett Gedeon; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews of Weston, West Virginia.

Angie and Dan especially wish to thank Sharron's niece, Diana, for visiting every Saturday to provide food, great company and continuing the legacy of making sure her Aunt Sharron received her favorite "chocotate." Sharron's family also expresses their heartfelt gratitude to all of the wonderful ladies who cared for Sharron during her greatest times of need -- Aunt Johanna, Lenett, Amanda, Brook, Ashley, Tracy, Samantha and Jen. Sharron could not have fought for as long as she did without your collective love, compassion and empathy.

In honor of Sharron's final wishes, her cremains have been placed in an elegant blue glass urn. Her children will host a celebration of life ceremony for family and close friends that will be announced at a later date.

In lieu of flowers or donations, please consider bringing and sharing your favorite written memories of Sharron to her celebration. Laughter is healing -- and this is the perfect way for Sharron to remain in our hearts, forever. "We love you, always!"

Carl W. Hall Funeral Home is honored to assist with these arrangements.
