CORTLAND -- Judith A. "Joy" James, 86, peacefully went home to be with the Lord on Friday, Aug. 9, 2024.
She was born on a farm in Garrettsville, and was raised in Garrettsville, Braceville and Leavittsburg.
Judy worked at Leavittsburg school for a few years before becoming a stay-at-home mom raising four children and attending their sports, music and academic activities.
Judy was married to Charles "Chuck" James for 63 years, supported him in his work, and they shared many leisure activities together. Judy liked to garden, swim, host family gatherings, and was an avid bowler in a women's league for many years. She enjoyed traveling, and especially visiting their grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was also known for her famous chocolate chip "cookie pies."
Judy was a member of North Mar Church, serving as a deaconess for many years, as well as working with the women's groups to support numerous missionaries.
Judy leaves behind three sons, Donald (Diana), David (Carol) and Dr. Douglas (Valarie); and a daughter, Deborah (Scott) Shallenberger; plus seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, whom she dearly loved. She also leaves behind sisters, Phyllis Dietelbach and Kay (Bill) Anderson; and brothers, Gary Joy (deceased) and Jim Joy. She also had many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held at noon Tuesday, Aug. 13, preceded by calling hours from 10 to 11:50 a.m. at the Peter Rossi & Son Memorial Chapel, 1884 North Road NE, Warren, OH 44483 with Pastor Paul Armitage.
Burial will be in Hillside Cemetery in Bazetta.
