Joseph W. Clay 1946-2024

NILES — Joseph W. Clay, 78, passed away peacefully at 6:30 a.m. Monday, July 22, 2024, at the Humility House, following an extended illness.

Joseph was born April 12, 1946, in Warren, the son of William and Stella Loomis Clay and has lived in this area all his life.

Joseph was a high school graduate and received an associate degree in electrical engineering from the Trumbull Branch of Kent State University.

Joseph retired from the maintenance department at Hillside Hospital following 25 years of faithful service. He also worked for 20 years at Salem Community Hospital and was a member of the Warren Revival Center.

He enjoyed fishing and did a great deal of crafting with his wife, Carol. He especially enjoyed spending time with his family.

Joseph is survived by his wife, Carol Loraine Miller, to whom he was married for 46 years; three daughters, Linda Lee Barnhart of Niles, Loraine Marie Sweet-Harris of Louisville and Kyleigh Clay of Niles; son, Richard Allen Sweet Jr. of Tallmadge; 11 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three sisters, Lula Foster, Liza Jane Clay and Marie Ramunno; and a brother, Cecil Clay, all of Niles; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Joseph was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Joseph A. Clay Sr.; his granddaughter, Grace Lee Cline; four brothers, Eugene Leedy, and Harold, James and Millard Clay; and a sister, Mary Jackson.

Funeral services were Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, with the Rev. Thomas Holbrook and the Rev. David Holbrook officiating.

Burial was in Pineview Memorial Park.
