Helen M. LoSasso 1935-2024

BOARDMAN -- Helen Marie LoSasso, 89, passed away Sunday morning, Aug. 11, 2024.

She was born June 10, 1935, in Youngstown, the daughter of Carl and Lena Grimshaw Alm, and was a lifelong area resident.

Helen was a graduate of Woodrow Wilson High School in 1953 and attended Youngstown College, majoring in art. In 1954, she married James LoSasso, and they had four children.

Helen was a proud homemaker, and family was at the center of everything she did. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren.

After raising her family, Helen worked for 15 years as the volunteer coordinator for Meals on Wheels at John Knox Church in Youngstown. Her commitment and service to others was rooted in her strong faith.

Helen had a deep devotion to and relationship with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. She was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church. She participated in Bible study and Sunday school, taught vacation Bible school, helped run the Bethel Piece Makers (ladies quilt group of the church) and was part of the bereavement dinner team and the women's circle group.

In addition to her volunteerism at Bethel, Helen had many creative talents throughout her life. She was an excellent cook and baker. She enjoyed quilt-making, knitting, sewing, gardening and painting. She was a member of the Western Reserve Knitting Guild in Canfield and became a master gardener at Fellows Riverside Gardens in Mill Creek Park.

Helen will always be loved for her generosity, her kindness and her wonderful ability to understand and appreciate every individual she encountered.

Helen will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of over 69 years, James J. LoSasso, whom she married Sept. 18, 1954; her children, Carl (Kay) LoSasso of Greenwood, Indiana, Jolene Frease of San Diego, California, Lissa Bell of Boardman and Jamie (Rob) Merlo of Niles; her grandchildren, Tishonda Clevenger, Jenny (Isaac) Martinez, Tracy (Scott) Van Auken, Derek Todd, Jimmy May, Danielle (Zack) Paukner, Brooke Frease, Erica (Ronny) Los, Thomas Hughes, and Alenna, Nunzio and Roberto Merlo; her great-grandchildren, Joshua (Cailin), Ryan, Jake, Isaac, Emerson, Jimmy, Gianna, Zach, Zoe, Zaiden, Carmine, Aria, David, Claire, Gabriella and Samantha; and a great-great granddaughter, Ava; along with many cherished nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Besides her parents, Helen was preceded in death by her son-in-law, Christopher Bell; a granddaughter, Audrey Lynn Wylie; and a brother, Carl R. Alm Jr.

Family and friends may pay their respects 10 to 11:15 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 17, 2024, at Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Drive, Boardman, where a funeral service will follow at 11:30 a.m., with Pastor Richard Kidd as celebrant.

Arrangements were entrusted to the professional care of the Rossi & Santucci Funeral Home, 4221 Market St., Boardman.

In lieu of flowers, material contributions may be made in Helen's name to Bethel Lutheran Church, 425 Crestview Drive, Boardman, OH 44512.
