WARREN -- David Salter, 90, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at Cleveland Clinic, South Pointe Hospital in Warrensville Heights.
He was born May 30, 1934, in Weirton, W. Va., the son of Sir Walter and Helen Dawkins Salter.
With profound sadness, we announce the passing of David Salter, an extraordinary man who left an indelible mark on the lives of those who knew him. As an amazing dad, accomplished professional and devoted husband, David's remarkable life was a testament to his unwavering character and dedication to his family, community and country.
David's impressive career spanned multiple fields, showcasing his exceptional intellect, talent and work ethic. As a key component to Parker Hannifin's Parflex Division in Ravenna, he played a vital role in the success of this esteemed American technology firm. His expertise and commitment to excellence earned him the respect and admiration of his colleagues and industry peers.
Before embarking on his civilian career, David proudly served his country as an enlisted airman in the U.S. Air Force. As an avionics navigation system specialist, he demonstrated exceptional skill and bravery, earning the gratitude of a nation. Following his military service, he continued to serve the public as an operating engineer for the State of Ohio, selflessly dedicating himself to the betterment of his community. However, David's most cherished roles were those of loving husband, loyal brother, protective uncle, dear friend, grandfather, great-grandfather and devoted father. He leaves behind a legacy of love, guidance and support, which will forever be cherished by his family. His children were the center of his universe, and he took immense pride in their accomplishments, offering unwavering encouragement and wisdom whenever needed.
Precious memories of David live on with his daughter, Mia Ree Collier (David Collier Jr.) of Albany, Georgia; three sons, David Blake Jackson of Warren, Bryant Marvin (Mashonnda) Jackson of Akron and Steven Salter of Columbus; eight grandchildren, Marquix Cole, Zipporah Cole, Anna Marie Jackson, Alfred Hemmingway Darby III, Sonya Darby, Kyle Ishmael Darby, Angela Jackson and Bryant Jackson II; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
His parents; all of his siblings; his daughter, Vernay Denise Darby and her husband, Alfred Hemmingway Darby II; and beloved wife, Tommie Ree Jackson Salter, preceded him in death.
Throughout his life, David exemplified the values of hard work, integrity and compassion. His infectious smile, kind heart and generous spirit inspired countless individuals, leaving a lasting impact on all who were fortunate enough to know him. As we bid farewell to this remarkable human being, we take comfort in the memories of his love, laughter and unwavering support. David's extraordinary life will continue to inspire generations to come, and his legacy will forever be etched in the hearts of those who loved him.

Calling hours are 10 a.m. to noon, with services to begin noon Friday, Aug. 9, 2024, at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, with Elder James E. Sanders officiating, accompanied by the Apostolic Choir of Ravenna. All who knew and loved David are welcome to attend and celebrate his remarkable life.
Entombment will follow the services in Pineview Memorial Park.
