NEWTON FALLS -- Shirley L. Sayres, age 84, of Newton Falls, passed away peacefully into eternal rest on Sunday, July 7, 2024, at her residence.
She was born on July 24, 1939, in Hamilton, the daughter of the late Joseph S. Minton and Louisa Hurley Minton. Shirley had lived in Newton Falls since 1968, formerly of Hamilton. She was a dedicated housewife and mother to four daughters.
Shirley attended the First Baptist Church in Newton Falls. She loved reading her Bible, walking, gardening, traveling through Amish country and spending time with her grandkids.
Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Bonnie Mahaffey; and four brothers, Tom, Dewey, Bob and Paul Minton.
She is survived by four daughters, Cheryl (James) James Deptowicz of Ravenna, Shelly (Douglas) Sanford of Gainesville, Texas, Christy (Eric) Janus of Shalersville and Tricia (Nick) Sennyk of New Philadelphia; nine grandchildren, Bob, Lindsey, Ashley, Rachel, Joe, Kelli, Kate, Nicky and Maddie; and six great-grandchildren, Kaden, Aiden, Collin, Caleb, Lincoln and Delphia.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial service was celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday, July 26, 2024, at First Baptist Church, 2640 South Canal St., Newton Falls, OH 44444, with the Rev. Steve Spurlock officiating. Shirley will be laid to rest in Union Hill Cemetery in Sugar Creek.
