CORTLAND -- With great sadness we announce that Mrs. Catherine L. Montesano Rosenberg, 74, unexpectedly passed away Wednesday, June 26, 2024, at her residence.
Catherine was born Feb. 4, 1950, in Bedford, Pa., a daughter of Eugene Mock and Nancy (Lawhead) Mock West.
Cathy was a devoted mother and grandmother who loved, encouraged and supported her three daughters and five grandchildren. She loved her sons-in-law like they were her own. She was also a loving aunt to many nieces and nephews.
Cathy seized life to the fullest and was always up for the next adventure. She showered her grandchildren with gifts and traveled from coast to coast to be present at all of their events. In the past few years, she participated in a 5k, attended the Eras Tour concert in full costume and traveled with her family to Sweden, Ecuador and Greece.
Grandma Cathy was the life of every New Year's Eve party. She made the best meatballs, and her spinach dip was requested at every family get-together. We will cherish these many memories and will forever hold her close in our hearts.
Cathy was an active member of Grace Church of the Nazarene in Austintown, where she served in many capacities, but especially enjoyed working in the nursery with the little ones.
Cathy graduated from Austintown Fitch High School in 1968. She worked as a licensed practical nurse for many years and served as an admissions director at area nursing homes before retiring in 2015.
Catherine is survived by her mother, Nancy; husband, John Rosenberg; and three daughters, Nancian (Damon) Meek of Toledo, Staci (Tracey) Direnzo of Austintown and Leah (Nathan Schiffrik) Montesano of Laurel, Maryland. She also leaves behind her five grandchildren, Elianna, Claira, Jacob, Zane and Sylvia; two brothers, Gary (Sharon) Mock and David (Diana) Mock, both of Austintown; and three sisters, Linda Lutz of Hudson, Debra (Jesse) Hodge of North Jackson and Lisa (James) Caputo of Largo, Florida.
She was preceded in death by her father, Eugene; her first husband, Joseph S. Montesano; and her brother-in-law, Donald Lutz.
Memorial services will be held at noon Friday, July 5, 2024, at Grace Church of the Nazarene, 5253 W. Webb Road, Austintown, with Pastor Nate Laughhunn officiating. Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the church.
Catherine will be peacefully laid to rest in Green Haven Cemetery in Canfield.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the children's fund at Grace Church.
Arrangements for Catherine are being provided by Lane Funeral Home Austintown Chapel, 5797 Mahoning Ave., Austintown. This obituary may be viewed and condolences can be sent by visiting www.lanefuneralhomes.com.
