HOWLAND -- Martha Rae DeGregory Hudson, of Warren, passed away Saturday June 15, 2024, at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House, Boardman.
Rae was born May 7, 1938, in Meadville, Pa., to James Vincent and Ruth Marie Smith DeGregory, and grew up in Austintown.
Rae was a cheerleader and graduated from Austintown Fitch High School in 1955.
Due to her excellent typing and stenography skills, she worked for the FBI in Washington, DC, until moving back to Ohio. She held various secretarial positions until her retirement. Rae was an active member of The Church at Warren, where she met and eventually married John Newton Hudson on May 7, 1993.
Throughout her life, she enjoyed baking and canning her own tomatoes and peaches. One of her great joys was going to White House Farms to personally select tomatoes for canning. Her nephews and nieces would say "eating one of Aunt Rae's cream puffs was a special treat." Rae loved to drive and was always up for roaming the Pennsylvania countryside to visit with aunts, uncles and cousins. She enjoyed traveling with her sons to visit her sister in Iowa. Anytime the sisters were together, a Scrabble tournament was imminent.
She is survived by her sister, Jeanne Beardsley of Ankeny, Iowa; her sons, William B. Davidson Jr. and James V. Davidson of Warren; and her grandchildren, Joshua Paul Bruch and Rachel Davidson.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, John Hudson; and brother-in-law, Ed Beardsley.
Graveside services for Rae will take place at 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 19, 2024, in Forest Lawn Cemetery in Boardman.
