Janet E. Tenney 1940-2024

WARREN — Janet E. Tenney, 83, passed Thursday, May 23, 2024, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital, after an extended illness.

She was born Dec. 28, 1940, in Vandalia, W.Va., the daughter of the late Acel D. and Nellie M. Cunningham Pringle.

Janet’s childhood was spent working on the family farm and hanging out with her sister and favorite cousins. She often talked about her pet groundhog, Chuckie, who lived under their porch.

On May 7, 1960, Janet married Vacel Tenney and moved to Warren, where they raised their nine children in the Champion area. The couple celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary prior to Vacel’s passing.

Janet enjoyed her life in Champion and considered it home. She stayed home and cared for the family while Vacel worked to provide for them. Janet’s life revolved around her children, husband and neighborhood friends.

Janet had the ability to make everyday things special, like family dinners on Sundays and having popcorn every Saturday for TV night with the Muppets. She truly was the heart of the home.

In later years, Janet resided with her daughter and her family, where her children could ensure she was as healthy and happy as possible. Her granddaughter, Ashley, was her “little nurse,” and her care enabled Janet to remain home as long as possible.

Janet spent her days watching any Food Network show, rooting for her favorite team (forever the Cleveland Indians to her) and spoiling their three dogs, especially Daisy, who was the perfect lap dog. Janet also was well-known for her owl collection, which made gift-giving easy for her loved ones.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Harold Tenney, David (Elizabeth) Tenney, Kimberly Tenney, Wayne Tenney, Beverly (Chuck) Cleaves, Paula Taylor, Keith L. (Leeann) Tenney, Tracie (Todd) Littell, with whom she resided, and Randall (Joyce) Riley. She also leaves behind her sister, Linda Riffle of West Virginia; 20 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son and daughter-in-law, Herbert “Gene” and Robin Tenney; and her beloved brother, Sgt. Joe Pringle (MIA Vietnam).

Services will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, May 30, 2024, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home, 533 N. Park Ave., Warren, with Pastor Jim Dittmar officiating.

Friends may call 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Meadow Brook Memorial Park.

Janet’s favorite color was yellow and she loved yellow roses and mums. Material contributions can be made to Warren Baptist Temple, 2093 Ewalt Ave. NE, Warren, OH 44483, in Janet’s memory.

The family would like to extend heartfelt gratitude to medical professionals who treated Janet over the years, most recently ICU nurses Christian and Jackie, for their kindness during this difficult time.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
