Ray W. Durkin Sr. 1934-2024

CORTLAND -- Ray Willard Durkin Sr., 89, of Cortland, passed away on Saturday, April 6, 2024, at home.

He was born June 10, 1934, in Warren, a son of the late James Durkin and the late Ada May Fox Durkin.

He was a graduate of Warren G. Harding High School. Ray went on to marry Janet Ray Livingston, and they were happily married until her passing.

During the Korean War, Ray entered the U.S. Navy in 1951 and continued his service through the Vietnam War, eventually retiring in 1974. He served proudly on the USS Lake Champlain as well as the USS Navasota during his 23 years of service.

Ray was a member of several local VFW's. He enjoyed fishing, flea markets, shopping at thrift stores and going to casinos. Most of all, he loved his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Randi (Harold Gene) Reid of Okolona, Mississippi; son, David Durkin of Flatonia, Texas; grandchildren, Travis, Tabitha, Kalli, Destiney, Nicole and Leo; and great-grandchildren, Millie, Mason, Paislee, Landyn, Jeovani, Jadiel, Logan and Beau.

He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Janet Ray Durkin; and children, Kim Allen Durkin, Ray Willard "Kip" Durkin Jr. and Richard Ray Durkin.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no public services.

Carl W. Hall Funeral Home is assisting with arrangements for cremation.
