ASHTABULA -- James Golf Lyle Jr. passed away peacefully, Saturday, Feb. 17 2024.
Jim was born Oct. 19, 1937, to Margaret Dunkerley Lyle and James G. Lyle Sr. in Youngstown.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Ann Moore Lyle; siblings, Virginia Wallis Hanni (Curtis), Dan B. (Phyllis) Wallis and Robert N. Wallis; and is survived by their children, Douglas (Sherri) Lyle, Jeffrey (Shari) Lyle and Gregory (Shelly) Lyle; grandchildren, Elyse (Josh) Stands, Jennifer (Patrick) Walsh, Douglas and Derek Lyle, James (Alissa) Lyle and Jordan Lyle, Taylor and Thomas Lyle; and great-grandchildren, George and Etta Stands, Emersyn Lyle and Ronnie Walsh.
Jim retired after 35 years at General Electric and began to travel the United States with his wife in their new RV home. They made it to 49 states together and Jim made it to the final state, Hawaii, after Carol's death, but carried her picture with him so she could be with him for that final state, too. They even made it to Alaska twice; they loved it that much. They loved the national parks, especially Acadia and the Grand Canyon, and having their kids join them at various stops over the years. The kids especially remember playing endless card games, where Carol was uber competitive and Jim was the easy-going, gracious loser with his daughters-in-law, most of the time. They created many memories with their families like the Thanksgiving spent with Doug and his wife in the Smoky Mountains, where they cooked the turkey over a spitfire, or at least tried to. If you've never done that, just know, it may never get done! In their later years, they lived in an apartment above Greg and Shelly's home, where Jim enjoyed his morning coffee time with Shelly. He enjoyed lots of hobbies, like gardening, stained glass and counted cross stitch.
There will be a celebration of life at some time in the near future.
In lieu of flowers, Jim would have preferred a donation to the American Breast Cancer Foundation or Alzheimer's Association, in honor of his wife.
The family would like to extend a deep, heartfelt thank you to the staff of Ashtabula Regional Home Health and Hospice of the Western Reserve.
