SOUTHINGTON -- Ruth Smith, 89, passed away Sunday, Feb. 25, 2024, at Windsor House in Champion.
She was born June 10, 1934, in Fleming, a daughter of the late Oscar Oliver and the late Freda Boney Oliver.
She married Adelbert Smith on Sept. 10, 1953, and shared many happy and loving years before his passing in June 2006.
Ruth was a graduate of Southington High School and was employed as a school bus driver at the Southington Board of Education for 17 years. She was sensitive to her passengers and often made a point to share caring thoughts with them when they needed it. Ruth was a member of Southington Christian Church for over 65 years, was active in the Southington Christian Church Mission and enjoyed being a member of the American Sewing Guild. Most of all, she was a loving wife and mother and enjoyed her family.
Surviving are her sons, Robert (Pam) Smith of Southington and Joseph Smith of Southington; granddaughter, Stephanie (Bill) Rhodes; sister, Jackie (Russell) Reed of Mineral Ridge; and brothers, John (Kathleen) Oliver of Arkansas, James Oliver of North Carolina and Ronald (Linda) Oliver of Niles.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her brothers, Charles, Norman, William and George Oliver; three sisters, Mary Humphress, Ethel Cummins and Kathryn Hites; and brother-in-law, Gene Hites.
Services will be held at noon Friday, March 1, 2024, at Southington Christian Church.
Friends may call from 10 a.m. to noon Friday at the church.
Interment will be in Southington Reformed Cemetery, Southington.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Southington Christian Church or the Southington Volunteer Fire Department Inc.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home.
