NILES -- Ernest E. "Ernie" Howell, 76, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 18, 2023, at his home.
He was born in Cleveland, on March 1, 1947, the son of James A. and Edith M. Bishop Howell.
He was a 1966 graduate of Brunswick High School and honorably served in the United States Army, as a medic in Germany. He was a retired truck driver for MS Carriers and White Line Express of Medina. He was a member of the Cortland First Church of God and enjoyed watching NASCAR and traveling.
Ernie is survived by six children, Dorothea (Larry) Hughes of Pocahontas, Arkansas, Pam Weeks of Illinois, Kimberly Linebaugh of Warren, Tracy (Jenny) Weeks of Niles, Kim (John) Jennings of Kodak, Tennessee, and Robert (Darlene) Howell of Genoa, West Virginia; 27 grandchildren; 46 great-grandchildren; nine great-great-grandchildren; sister, Peggy (Ray) Hawkins of Brunswick; brother, Jim (Adaline) Howell of Cleveland; and special neighbors, Shawn and Angela Hughes of Niles.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna Lee (Kyle) Howell, whom he married on Oct. 9, 1982, and who died on June 28, 2021; daughter, Tami Singleton; two sons, Clifford Weeks and Kenneth F. Hilty II; a granddaughter; a great-grandson; and a brother, Chuck Howell.
A memorial service will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, 2023 at the Cortland First Church of God, 541 S. High St., Cortland, OH 44410, where family and friends may call one hour prior to the service.
Following the services, a memorial dinner will be held in his honor at the church.
