Joseph C. DeLuca 1956-2023

COLUMBUS -- It is with the heaviest of hearts we announce the unexpected passing of Joseph "Joe" Carmel DeLuca, 67. Joe passed away peacefully at his home, Saturday, Aug. 5, 2023.

Joe absolutely loved his family. He was most excited about sharing with his wife, Kathy (Kathleen Synsik), preparations for the upcoming birth of their first grandchild, Nieve Carmen Ann, who was born Aug. 8, 2023, to their cherished daughter, Kristina Allison and son-in-law, Christopher Sahadath of Whitby, Ontario, Canada. She will be raised with a healthy appreciation for baseball and tales of her grandfather's adventures by family, friends and loved ones.

He earned his master's degree (B.A.) from Kent State University. Joe then assumed the role of campus director for National College. He was instrumental in successfully establishing the college's presence in Northeast Columbus.

After Joe's retirement, he developed a passion for pickleball, which only enhanced the joy and gratitude he felt sharing his life with Kathy. Theirs was a very special love story.

Joe had a special love for his brothers, Charles "Tony" (Kristen) De Luca of Granville and their daughter, Meredith; Stephen "Steve" (Colleen) De Luca of Hardyville, Va. and their children, Daniel, Laura (Patti) and their, son Otto; and Jason (Wendy) De Luca of Mineral Ridge and their son, Michael.

Joe was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Lee Pauley DeLuca; his father, Nunziato DeLuca; and stepmother, Teresa DeLuca. He is survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins.

"We lovingly appreciate all the support received from across the miles."

A celebration in honor of Joe's life will be announced at a later date. At that time, his friends, family and colleagues will be welcome to join.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be in Joe's name to Walk With A Doc, walkwithadoc.org. More importantly, go for a walk. Join a Walk With A Doc Group in your area for overall health and wellness.
