James Kushley-Conine 1947-2023

WARREN -- It is with great heartbreak that the family announces the passing of James "Jim" Kushey-Conine on Monday, June 26, 2023.

Jim was born in Warren to Natalie Kushey on Aug. 13, 1947, and lovingly raised by parents, Louise and Dewey Conine.

He graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in 1965 and started Northwest Services HVAC, which he owned and successfully operated for over 55 years.

While Jim loved his cars -- fixing them, driving them, talking about them and showing them as a member of The Spinners Car Club of Niles -- they could not match the love he had for his family. Jim's best driving was with his wife and love of his life, Gloria Conine, in the passenger seat. Jim and Gloria created many memories over the last 30 years, enjoying car shows, taking spontaneous drives in their 1965 Chevrolet Biscayne, traveling and attending countless Michael Stanley concerts. Days apart would be reconciled with a good morning and good night telephone call, from Jim's trusty flip-phone.

Always the jokester, Jim laughed at how he was a shoo-in for Heaven because he knew his wife was a saint. But to know Jim's nature was to know kindness. He was loved by his many customers over the years, and worked long days to ensure they were protected throughout all seasons. Even knowing a client could not pay him, Jim never hesitated to help someone in need.

Jim is survived by his wife, Gloria of Warren; and children, Andrea (Kevin) Rufener of Newton Falls, Pamela Houston of Orlando, Andrew Merolillo of Buffalo and Ron Kempo of Warren. Jim was a dad in the truest form. His children appreciated his sage advice and ability to solve practically any car or air conditioning problem at any hour, over the phone.

Jim is also survived by his grandchildren, who always brought a smile to his face -- Kristen, Michael, Shawn, Kylie, Delani, Caden and Kennedy. Papa could always be relied on for surprises. He loved attending his grandchildren's school and athletic events, sharing lots of cookies with them and teaching them to drive.

Husband. Father. Papa. Jim was simply always happy to play, happy to eat and happy to help.

He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Marcu; and parents, Louise and Dewey Conine of Warren.

No services will be held.
