NEWTON FALLS -- Albert C. "Boomer" Hoerig Jr., 84, of Newton Falls, passed away peacefully into eternal rest Sunday morning, April 30, 2023, at the Country Club Rehabilitation Campus, Newton Falls.
He was born Sept. 15, 1938, in Warren, the son of the late Albert C. Hoerig Sr. and Ruth Brengartner Hoerig.
Albert was a life long resident of Newton Falls, and graduated from Newton Falls High School in the Class of 1957. He married the love of his life, Kathleen S. Uhrin on March 19, 1960; and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage together, until she passed away July 18, 2017.
Albert worked as a stone mason / bricklayer for the Bricklayer Union Local 43 for over 32 years, and retired in 1992. He and his brother, Edwin were self-employed masons and worked many years together until Albert retired in 2020.
Albert was a member of the SS. Mary and Joseph Catholic Church in Newton Falls, the Newton Falls Amvets Post 112 and the former Knights of Columbus (K of C) in Newton Falls. He enjoyed gardening, traveling, NASCAR racing, snow skiing in his youth, doing puzzles, tinkering in the garage, sporting events, and especially his grandchildren.
Albert was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Kathleen; and one brother, Edwin Hoerig.
He is survived by one daughter, Amy Christine (Robert) Kirchenbauer of Nashville, Tenn.; three sons, Gregory Martin (Roxanne) Hoerig of Warren, Joseph Peter (Megan) Hoerig of West Chester, Ohio and Ted Brian (Cathy) Hoerig of Strongsville, Ohio; eight grandchildren, Michael, Amber, Ryan, Lindsey, Nicholas, Mitchell, Dominic and Sophia; and three great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be 11 a.m. Thursday, May 4, 2023, at the James Funeral Home in Newton Falls, with the Rev. Fr. David Merzweiler officiating.
Calling hours will be 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, May 3, 2023, at the funeral home.
Boomer will be laid to rest beside his wife, Kathleen, in St. Joseph Cemetery, Newton Falls.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that all donations please be made to either the Newton Falls Amvets Post #112, 37 West Broad St., Newton Falls, OH 44444, or the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 6704, Hagerstown, MD 21741, in his memory.
