Walter J. Sudol 1932-2023

WARREN -- Walter J. Sudol, 90, died Tuesday, March 28, 2023, at Windsor House in Champion.

He was born May 9, 1932, in McDonald, a son of the late John Sudol and the late Katherine Sudol.

Walter was employed as a mechanical engineer at RMI Corporation for 37 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason.

He enjoyed hunting and booking his yearly fishing charters on Lake Erie, where the guys would often get their limit of walleye or perch. They all love showing off their impressive catch at the dock and the memories live on in their pictures. He also took his two granddaughters on a private fishing adventure upon their request.

On Thursdays, he would pick his friends up with his van. They would frequent area restaurants for lunch and dubbed themselves "the lunch bunch." He also was known to be a square dancer and had another circle of friends doing that. He enjoyed polka music, Sunrise Inn and Buena Vista chicken.

Surviving are two daughters, Kathy Phillips of Cortland and Patty Crawford of Champion; son, James Sudol of Warren; stepson, Michael Hudak; stepdaughter, Marianne (Randy) Rutherford; stepson, David Hudak; grandchildren, Jake and Jamie Phillips, Brian and Becky Crawford, Shaun Sudol and Tiffany Baker; and step-grandchildren, Josh, Michael and Christopher Hudak, Elaine Chirdon and Phillip Rutherford; along with several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Carolyn Sudol; second wife, Vilma Hudak; and 12 brothers and sisters.

It has been a long road for our dad, grandfather and friend. He was an amazing, consistent, kind-souled man, not only to his first family, but to his newfound family, too. He had a wealth of good friends over the years who were more like family to him. He spread his love and kindness over the years and was loved by all. We all know how lucky we were to have known and loved him. He will be truly missed and always remembered as a great model for us all.

A memorial service will be 11 a.m. Thursday, April 13, 2023, at the Carl W. Hall Funeral Home. Friends may call from 10 to 11 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Bazetta Township.
