Albert Mason 1949-2023

NEWTON FALLS — Albert “Russ” Mason, 73, of Newton Falls, passed away Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at Trumbull Regional Medical Center, Warren, with his loving family at his side, after a seven-month courageous battle with cancer.

Russ was born July 29, 1949, in West Virginia, the son of Bennett and Violet Mason.

He attended SS. Mary and Joseph Parish in Newton Falls.

Russ was a proud veteran of the Navy and a dedicated active member of the American Legion Post 236, where he was the adjutant and ran the bingo hall for many years. He also called bingo at the St. Joseph Church bingo hall.

He retired in 2008, from Denman Tire, where he was a tire builder.

On May 3, 1983, he married the love of his life, Sandy Carocci, and they spent 40 wonderful years together.

Russ enjoyed golfing at Duck Creek Golf Course and cutting the greens with his good friend, Steve. The family always knew if it was broken, Russ could fix it. His handy work will be greatly missed.

Cherished memories of Russ will be carried on by his wife, Sandy; his two children, Michael Cybak of Columbus and Lora Tarbay and Dusty of Kinsman; his two sisters, Cindy Ripley and Sue (Randy) Jenkins of West Virginia. He had four grandchildren, of whom he was so proud, Kaitlyn and Michael Cybak of Columbus and Matthew and Mason Tarbay of Kinsman.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his in-laws, Elio and Louise Carocci; and his son, Jarid Mason.

The family would like to thank all the caregivers at the Hope Center in Howland, especially Dr. Lori Hemrock; and many thanks to all of those who cared for Russ in the ICU Unit at Trumbull Regional Medical Center.

Family and friends may call from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 30, 2023, and also from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2023, at the Bernard P. Borowski Memorial Home in Newton Falls.

The Funeral Mass will be at 11 a.m. Monday, May 1, 2023, at SS. Mary and Joseph Church, with Rev. David Merzweiler as celebrant.

The Newton Falls Veterans Honor Guard and the United States Navy will honor Russ for his service to our country at St. Joseph Cemetery in Paris Township, where he will be laid to rest.
