Robert E. Hillman 1940-2023

MINERAL RIDGE -- Robert Edward Hillman, 82, passed away Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023, at his residence.

Robert was born April 16, 1940, in Niles, to Frank and Gladys Hillman.

"Bobby" was a firefighter for the Niles Fire Department from Feb. 16, 1970, until his retirement, Nov. 30, 1988, and truly loved being a fireman. It was his dream job. Bob also owned Hillman's Pennzoil Station in Niles in the 1960s, raced stock cars and was a veteran of the Army, stationed in Korea.

Bob was raised in the city, but thoroughly enjoyed turning his wife Carol's love for horses into his love for everything country. He loved tractors, farming and growing all the crops necessary to care for the horses. Bob had a gigantic garden and raised his own beef, pork and chickens for the family to be self-sufficient. When he wasn't farming, Bob also loved fishing, hunting and cooking on the outdoor cooker he built to share with friends, family and many of the firemen. He loved throwing his Fourth of July party and preparing the meal for his loved ones and neighbors. To this day, Bob's daughters believe he was the best cook that ever lived.

He is survived by his daughters, Tina Hall of Southington, Denise Hillman Ratell (Ron) of Wisconsin and Ann Garris (Josh) of Mineral Ridge; sisters, Sally Dorling of Las Vegas, Vicki Breckner (Dave) of Norton and Debbie Wilson (Denny) of Lordstown; two grandchildren, Thomas R. Hall Jr. and Reagan T. Garris; and one great-grandchild, Cooper James Hall.

Robert was preceded in death by his father, Frank Hillman; mother, Gladys McCullough Hillman; wife, Carol F. (Jerina) Hillman; and two brothers, Richard Hillman and Charles Hillman.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023, for Bob and his wife, Carol at Staton-Borowski Funeral Home in Warren. Friends and family may call one hour prior to the service. Officiating will be the Rev. Matthew Cretella, Bob's nephew, and the Rev. Dr. Vicki Hillman Breckner, Bob's sister.

Caring and professional arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, 962 North Road NE, Warren, OH 44483, 330-394-6200. Dedicated to serving your loved ones. This obituary may be viewed and condolences sent at www.statonborowskifuneralhome.com.
