Dorothy Mae Grant Bland 1935-2023

She was born Aug. 3, 1935, in Alcolu, S.C., the eldest daughter of William “Son” and Magdalene Grant.

Dorothy was employed with Packard Electric for more than 30 years, while living and raising her children in Warren before her retirement. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church, where she served as secretary, church clerk and member of her beloved Silver Leaf church choir. Her other interests included travel, shopping and loving care of both family and friends.

She leaves to mourn, four daughters, Janice Stewart of San Diego, Calif., Cheryl (Michael) Spiva of Smyrna, Ga., Cynthia Canty of Augusta, Ga. and Vickie Bland of Atlanta, Ga.; four grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

They are surrounded in love and comforted by Dorothy’s nine siblings, Ruby Grant (Robert), William Bubba Grant (Linda), Frances Manning (Lee), Betty J. Nelson (Bill), Pearl Horace (Phillip), Malva Miller (Tim), Carolyn Young, Linda Singleton (Harold) and Stanley Grant (Linda); and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

This is the family legacy of William and Magdalene Grant, who along with her brother, Roosevelt; and her son, Ronald Bland, preceded her in death.

The memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, March 4, 2023, at Mount Nebo Baptist Church, 10331 Plowden Mill Road, Alcolu, SC 29001. Calling hours will begin one hour prior. Burial will take place immediately after the services.
