Mary Elizabeth Rogers 1920-2022

WINSTON SALEM, N.C. — Mary Elizabeth “Betty” Glinn Rogers joined the church triumphant on Thursday, Dec. 29, 2022.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 67 years, Richard “Dick” W. Rogers; her parents, Mary Elizabeth Munson Glinn and John B. Glinn; sister, Marjorie Glinn Sharp; and brother, John “Jack” B. Glinn Jr.
She is survived by her six children, Patricia R. Truesdell (Don), R. Douglas Rogers (Chris), Bruce N. Rogers (Jane), Donna R. Ensley (Curtis), Daniel R. Rogers (Ann) and J. Craig Rogers (Patty); her 15 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
Born in Cynthiana, Ky., on Dec. 4, 1920, she moved to Warren, in 1923, where she attended First Presbyterian Church, met her husband Dick, raised her family and served the community as Church Elder, on the board and as President of the YWCA, and in many other ways during her 72 years there. She and Dick enjoyed a community of friends, playing golf and bridge and traveling. Theirs was a love affair to remember!
They retired in 1996 to Bermuda Village Retirement Community in Advance, N.C., where they continued to enjoy golf, bridge and meeting new friends. They became active members of Clemmons Presbyterian Church and volunteered there and in the community. Dick passed away in 2010, and Betty continued to be involved in church and her retirement community, until just recently.
Betty loved her family, God, and the many people who crossed her path. She was an avid gardener, nature lover and enjoyed baking for her family and friends. She will be remembered with love for her kindness, sense of social justice, love of the English language and sense of humor. We rejoice with thanksgiving that on Dec. 4, 2022, all her children, several grandchildren and great-grandchildren were gathered to celebrate her 102nd birthday.
A memorial service will be held in the Bermuda Village Chapel in February, on a date to be determined.
Condolences may be sent to the Rogers family, in care of Donna Ensley, 55 Newman Cove Road, Arden, NC 28704.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made, in her memory, to Clemmons Presbyterian Church, 3930 Clemmons Road, Clemmons, NC 27012.
