William B. McKinley 1946-2022

CANTON -- William B. McKinley, 76, passed away Saturday, Sept. 24, 2022, after fighting a courageous battle with COVID-19, despite all necessary precautions.

He was born Aug. 11, 1946, to the late William F. and Margaret Langley McKinley.

Bill was preceded in death by his parents, and nephew, Lt. Col. Benjamin Fielding, U.S. Army.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Kathleen K. McKinley; daughter, Kristin (Tony) Steiner; son, William (Renee) McKinley; grandchildren, Anthony Steiner, Joseph Steiner, Matthew Steiner, Leah McKinley and Sophia McKinley; and sister, Marilyn (Ben) Fielding.

Bill proudly served his country as an officer in the United States Navy on the JFK aircraft carrier. He obtained his MBA from Baldwin Wallace University, went on to work for FirstEnergy and later retired from Baasten McKinley Law Firm.

Bill loved baseball, collecting sports memorabilia, traveling with his wife and friends, theater, photography and environmental conservation. Through his passion, he coached baseball and softball and was president of the Jackson Girls Softball Association.

From the Christmas Santa collection to vacations and grocery lists, you could expect Bill to have a spreadsheet for everything. He was incredibly organized and also very passionate about living life to the fullest.

He was known to always be entertaining his grandchildren with silly songs, and supported them in their sports. He was always their No. 1 fan.

As an amateur bartender, he introduced "Happy Hour" to his grandchildren as being the best part of the day, and together with his wife, the two poured their love into hosting the best parties. To Bill, every occasion was a celebration, detailing his love of life with many stories and having spent his life devoted to family and friends. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends and all who had the pleasure of knowing him.

In honor of Bill's wishes, no public services will be held; a celebration of life will be scheduled at a later date.
