NILES -- Dorothy A. Manchester, 93, passed away unexpectedly at 2:34 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18, 2021, at St. Joseph Warren Hospital.
Dorothy was born in Niles on Aug. 4, 1928, the daughter of Joseph and Pasqualina Modarelli Murano and has lived in this area all her life.
Dorothy was a 1946 graduate of Niles McKinley High School and a member of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church. Dorothy was employed as a loan officer for the 717 Credit Union for over 20 years and retired in 1990.
She enjoyed classical music, opera and history. She cherished the many family functions and activities with her children and grandchildren. Following her retirement, she enjoyed many trips to the casinos, especially being a winner at the slot machines.
Dorothy is survived by her five children, Dr. Frank Manchester (Doug) of Portsmouth, N.H., Dr. Deborah Manchester (Sheila) of Studio City, Calif., Bill Manchester (Joyce) of Rutland, Vt., Cathy Carlisle (Bob) of Niles and John Manchester (Bonnie) of Southington; six grandchildren, John (Heather) Matuszwski, Jessica Manchester, Jeremy (Kelly) Manchester, Tara (Adam) Lehmann, Dustin Manchester and Frank Manchester; three great-grandchildren, Jamie, Arlo and Zoe; and special caregiver, Natalie Comer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank A. Manchester, whom she married Feb. 3, 1951, and he died Sept. 6, 1992; granddaughter, Christine Manchester; and only sister, Marie Sava.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church, Niles, at noon Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021. Friends may call at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home, Niles, on Tuesday, Sept. 21, 2021, from 10 until the 11:30 a.m. prayer service, prior to going to church. Burial will be in Niles City Cemetery.
