Hugh T. Morgan 1930-2021

HOWLAND TOWNSHIP — Hugh Thomas Morgan, 90, of Howland, passed away peacefully at 2:20 a.m. Wednesday, July 28, 2021, at Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Home in Howland.

He was born Saturday, Dec. 13, 1930, in Warren, the son of the late Hugh and Anne Hakundy Morgan.

Hugh was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and served his country during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged with the rank of sergeant.

From 1970 to 1977, Hugh lived in Ludington, Mich., where he worked in retail sales before coming back to Warren and worked for the JC Penney Company for 39 years, retiring on May 1, 1996.

He was a member of Central Christian Church.

Hugh was a member of the Rotary Club of Ludington, Mich., and then the Rotary Club of Niles, where he held perfect attendance for 26 years before his retirement. He was past president of both clubs.

He was an avid golfer and enjoyed fishing and hunting. In his younger years, he enjoyed traveling with his wife, Kay. We cannot forget to mention that he was a University of Michigan football fan.

Hugh is survived by his wife of 67 years, the former Catherine “Kay” Hnatkowicz, whom he married Aug. 1, 1953; his daughter, Denise O’Mara of Ann Arbor, Mich.; his son, Brian Morgan of Youngstown; a sister, Beverly Benidict of Andover; two granddaughters, Kelly O’Mara and Kristy (Thomas) Moore; and two great-grandchildren, Matthew and Riley Moore. Hugh also is survived by several nieces and nephews and their families.

Besides his parents, Hugh was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley Morgan.

Private services were held Friday, July 30, 2021, at the Staton-Borowski Funeral Home, with Pastor Marc Runyon of Central Christian Church as celebrant.

The family of Hugh Morgan would like to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Trumbull Regional Medical Center (Trumbull Memorial Hospital) and Shepherd of the Valley Lutheran Home in Howland for all the care and comfort that was given to Hugh and his family during illness and stay.
